Why should I bring my child to Melonhead?
Many of our stylists are parents too, so we know how important a good cut is, and are well trained to provide the best! We work hard to provide a fun and friendly atmosphere, filled with kid-friendly entertainment like the latest kid shows and movies, toys, and bubbles - all in a colourful world where they can pilot a plane, ride a pony, or drive a car! We also have fun rides and treats to reward all little Melonheads who come in for a cut!
How much is a haircut?

What is included in my haircut service?
Other than your totally awesome haircut, hair colour spray and/or glitter spray is included in any hair service. Our clients love getting pink highlights, frosted tips, or fairy dusted.
What age do I bring my child in for their first haircut?
It all depends on the child - some come in who are just a few weeks old, others at 4 years old. For those too young to sit on their own, don’t worry - we have regular salon chairs so that baby can sit on mom or dad's lap.
Do you offer anything for first haircuts?
We know how important first haircuts are for parents, that's why we try to make each first haircut at Melonhead an enjoyable and memorable experience. Each first-timer will receive a first haircut certificate, a small lock of hair to take home as a keepsake, and a keepsake photo for your memories. If you're bringing in your child for a first cut, please let your stylist know, and ask any questions you may have. We are here to ensure your first experience, is the best experience. Do I need an appointment?
We always suggest you make an appointment to avoid disappointment, especially on evenings and weekends – our busiest times. We try our to accommodate all walk-ins, however there are times where wait times can exceed 2 hours, so appointments are highly recommended.
When is the last appointment of the day that I can book?
Last haircuts of the day are 30 minutes prior to store closing. Please visit our location page for a list of all stores and hours. If you’d like the last appointment of the day, please call in advance to ensure there is a spot available for you.
I cannot make it for my appointment, what do I do?
We provide a 10-minute grace period, however we kindly ask that you call to let us know if you cannot make it to your scheduled appointment as our stylists are left awaiting your arrival. This then delays remaining clients who are waiting to be served.
I was only 15 minutes late for my appointment, why wouldn’t they take me?
We understand how hard it is to always be on time - especially with kids, this is why we give all our clients a 10-minute grace period. We take appointments every 20 minutes, so once someone is 15 minutes late, our stylists now only have a 5-minute time frame to complete the haircut and/or style. Unfortunately, there is no way we can give your child the best haircut we can in that time. In addition, waiting longer than 10 minutes will delay our remaining appointments. We strive to accommodate everyone, but keep in mind that many families probably have a similar schedule to yours. Please call us if you think you're going to be late, or if you cannot make your appointment. We will try our best to ensure alternative arrangements can be made that work for you.
Why do you need my phone number when making my appointment?
Any information collected from you when making your appointment is strictly used to contact you regarding your appointment, or any lost & found situations.
What happens if my child has lice?
Unfortunately, we are not able to service any clients with lice until it is completely removed. Many of our locations carry lice squad products, which are natural, effective products for clients to remove lice at home. You can also receive professional lice removal at any Lice Squad location.
My child has special needs, do you cater to that?
We understand how scary a haircut can be especially when clients with special needs or sensory issues come to visit. All our stylists have gone through extensive training to ensure our clients are comfortable and happy. No machines? No problem! We'll use scissors. We will take our time and our best to ensure that your child is well taken care of.
I am unhappy with my haircut, what do I do?
Our stylists are ask as many questions as they can to ensure that you are satisfied at the end of your visit. If for any reason, you are not happy with the haircut, please call in to speak to the store manager or contact our Head Office to arrange for a complimentary fix.
How old is too old to come to Melonhead?
You are never too old for Melonhead. We cater to children of all ages - children, teens, even mom & dad. Don’t worry, you don’t have to sit in thomas the train – unless you really want too1
What kinds of chidren's hair care products do you carry?
Every Melonhead location carries our own exclusive line of shampoos and styling products, developed by stylists and tested by moms on our own little ones (not animals). All products are made right here in Canda guaranteed tear-free!
What is your refund policy on retail products?
Products can be returned/exchanged within 7 days of purchase, with original receipt. There are no refunds on hair accessories, haircare products, nail polish, earrings, books or gift cards. Items being returned/exchanged must be unopened, except in cases of manufacturers recalls.
Do you provide items for donations?
We support a number of local and national child-related charities through direct donations. We also provide coupons to many local child-related charities, schools, and community centres. If you are a part of any of these groups, please contact us with the details and we will try our best to accommodate your request. Due to the high number of requests we receive, we are unable to fulfill all requests. Thank you for your understanding.
Does my Melonhead gift cards expire?
Melonhead gift cards do not expire. They can be redeemed at the location of the original purchase. Damaged, lost, or stolen gift cards, unfortunately cannot be replaced. It is up to the owner/recipient to safeguard their card. To determine the balance, please visit or call your local Melonhead location. If you encounter any problems with your gift card, please contact us with the date of purchase, location of purchase, receipt number and gift card number.
